We design, build and look after the websites for two of Cambridge’s flagship crop science programmes, the Crop Science Centre and ENSA.

Both are working on some of the biggest questions in agriculture, from more resilient, high-yielding crops to helping smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa grow more with less fertiliser.

They needed websites that could share complex research clearly, keep publications and people up to date with very little effort, and stay fast and secure for a global audience of scientists, policymakers and partners.

THE CHALLENGE

Busy research teams,
and a lot of science to share.

Researchers don’t have time to wrestle with a website. Each programme needed a platform that showcased its projects, publications, people and partnerships in a dynamic and accessible way, that a growing team could keep current without technical help, and that could evolve as the research moved on.

WHAT WE DID

Bespoke WordPress, joined up
with the research world.

We designed and built a fully custom WordPress platform for each programme, with a modular back end so the teams can create new pages, news, projects and profiles themselves. For the Crop Science Centre we connected the site to Google Scholar and ORCID, so each researcher’s published work appears automatically and stays accurate. Both sites run on secure managed hosting we set up and look after, with automated backups, firewalls and monitoring.

THE RESULTS

Research that’s easier to find,
and sites that look after themselves.

Both teams now publish news, projects and publications themselves, so their sites stay current without waiting on outside help. The Google Scholar and ORCID integrations make the Crop Science Centre’s research easier to discover and cite, and the managed hosting keeps both sites fast, secure and reliable. We continue to support both programmes as their research grows.
